Experience the sky from the cockpit in a 45-minute Discovery Flight guided by an FAA-certified instructor.
This introductory session gives you a chance to explore what pilot training is like before enrolling in a flight school. First, you meet your instructor. Together, you inspect the aircraft and learn the basics. Then it's time to sit in the pilot’s seat. While in flight, the instructor demonstrates some basic maneuvers. With no pressure you get to experience the thrill of flying firsthand.
Oklahoma Flight Academy offers this hands-on experience as your first step toward earning your private pilot license through our Part 61 flight school.
A private pilot license (PPL) allows you to fly for personal or recreational purposes. It is the first step toward becoming a professional pilot and gives you the freedom to fly solo, carry passengers, and explore the skies on your own schedule.
The PPL flight training program requires 40 flight hours, including 20 hours of dual instruction with 10 hours of solo flight. Kick off your PPL training with a no-commitment 45-minute Discovery Flight at Oklahoma Flight Academy and see if aviation is the right path for you!
The time it takes to earn a private pilot license depends on how often you fly and how your training fits into your schedule.
Full-time students flying four to five days a week typically complete training in two to three months. This allows for consistent progress through all lessons, solo flights, and exams.
For part-time students, earning a PPL usually takes about four to six months. This schedule offers flexibility while maintaining steady advancement.
Most students log between 60 to 70 total flight hours on the way to getting a PPL, even though the FAA minimum is 40.
Flight schools that operate under Part 61 allow students to move at their own pace, which makes it easier to balance flight training with other responsibilities.
Start your PPL journey with a no-pressure, 45-minute Discovery Flight at Oklahoma Flight Academy to see if aviation is your calling!
You do not need any previous flying experience to begin flight training. Many student pilots start from scratch with no aviation background at all.
All you need is a passion for flying, a valid form of ID, and a willingness to learn. You can begin flying solo lessons as early as age 16 and become eligible to earn your private pilot license at age 17.
Flight schools that operate under Part 61 provide a personalized, flexible, and self-paced training experience.
Certified flight instructors guide you through each step with one-on-one instruction, helping you build confidence, skills, and safety awareness from your very first lesson.
Begin your PPL training with a low-pressure 45-minute Discovery Flight at Oklahoma Flight Academy and decide if aviation is the perfect fit!
The cost of earning your Private Pilot License (PPL) can vary depending on several factors, including your location, frequency of lessons, and the length of the lesson.
To get a full breakdown of pilot training program costs, including PPL, CPL, Instrument Rating, and aircraft rental rates, check out our detailed pricing guide.
Our rates cover everything from flight time and ground instruction to materials, testing, and examiner fees. At Oklahoma Flight Academy, we offer a flexible schedule that allows you to pace your training.
Whether you choose to spread out your investment over time or accelerate your path to certification, our Part 61 flight school provides the guidance you need to manage costs effectively.
Consistent flying, financial planning, and instructor support all contribute to a more efficient and manageable process.
Many of our students begin with zero flight experience. As a Part 61 flight school, OFA specializes in providing personalized, professional flight training that meets you exactly where you are. With flexible scheduling, a self-paced structure, and CFIs committed to your success, we ensure every student has the support and resources they need to fly with confidence.
You can begin flight training at any age, but you must be 16 years old to solo and 17 to become eligible to earn your Private Pilot License (PPL). We welcome aspiring aviators of all experience levels and ages. Our flexible, student-centered training allows younger students to ease into aviation under expert guidance. At OFA, students build skills, confidence, and momentum from day one.
People can start flight training in any decade of life. As long as you obtain a Third Class FAA Medical Exam, you can pursue your pilot license. It's never to late to learn to fly.
To earn your private pilot license at Oklahoma Flight Academy, you will complete several key steps. First, you will take a Discovery Flight to experience flying firsthand.
Then, you will begin flight lessons with a certified instructor, covering both ground school and in-air maneuvers.
The next step is to pass an FAA medical exam, take a written knowledge test, and log a minimum of 40 flight hours. The final step includes a successful checkride with a designated pilot examiner and demonstrating your ability to fly safely and confidently.
Begin with Step 1 today by scheduling a 45-minute Discovery Flight to learn what training to become a pilot is all about.
There’s no minimum age to take flight lessons with an instructor in a dual-controlled aircraft.
However, we recommend not starting until 14 years old, depending on the student’s size and maturity.
You can begin learning the basics and even log flight time toward a future license.
